HOW TO ADOPT A PET

How it works:

1. Visit us in person at 2802 W. Central Park Ave. Davenport, IA 52804 or visit our website at www.hssc.us and browse our adoptable pets. Click on their profile for more information!

2. While you're here at the shelter, our adoption counselors will answer any questions you have about a particular pet and allow for a meet and greet with you and your family in one of our meeting rooms with any pet you're interested in that would be a good fit for your home.

If you are interested in adopting a dog and have another dog in the home, we will assist you with a meet and greet between canine companions as well. This dog meet and greet will be scheduled for a time after the meet and greet between the dog and human family members has been done.

3. In the event that two families choose to meet the same pet and he/she gets adopted by the first family, we are happy to make recommendations on other pets that would fit your interests!

4. Once you've found your match, we'll have you fill out one of our digital applications and process the adoption. Our adoption process is completely online now, so our preferred payment method is credit card!

Health of adoptable pets

Our animals come from various environments and their medical history is typically unknown to us. We make every effort possible to ensure that animals are healthy both mentally and physically when making them available for adoption, however we can make no guarantee to health, behavior, breed, or temperament.

Post Adoption Support Program

When you adopt a dog or cat from us, you will automatically be signed up for our organization's post adoption support program. This includes a text message and email to confirm your sign-up followed by support emails to help guide you on welcoming your new pet to your home. Once the support series is complete, you will be enrolled in our monthly newsletters. You can opt out of receiving these emails at any time.
