At the Humane Society of Scott County, we believe every animal deserves a chance at a loving home, no matter their age. Thanks to the generous support of The Grey Muzzle Organization, we were able to give Kenny, a sweet 8-year-old dog, the second chance he truly deserved.
Kenny had been in our shelter multiple times before his final surrender, and like many senior pets, he faced extra challenges finding a home. But the Grey Muzzle grant allowed us to provide the medical care he needed and give him the spotlight through an individually boosted social media post.
The results were life-changing. Shortly after his post went live, Kenny found his loving home with one of our very own foster volunteers. His new mom has been a dedicated HSSC supporter since 2021, fostering countless kittens and lending her time as a volunteer. Now, Kenny not only has a loving family, but also a sister named Alice, cat siblings, and even tiny foster kittens to help raise throughout the year.
We are incredibly grateful to The Grey Muzzle Organization for selecting us as grant recipients. Their funding allows us to put additional resources and focus on senior dogs like Kenny — dogs who often get overlooked but still have so much love to give. With the right support and opportunities, senior pets can shine just as brightly as puppies and kittens. Kenny’s story is a beautiful reminder of the joy and companionship that older pets bring when given the chance.
