Golden Companions Program

Affordable adoptions for senior citizens of Scott County

We believe that everyone should have the chance to own a pet, so we created our Golden Companions Program.  Funded by the Mary Iva Gittens Knouse Trust, this program is designed for Scott County residents 60 years of age and older.  Participants may adopt an adult cat or dog (1 year or older) for an affordable adoption fee.  Cats are $20, and dogs are $50.

The fact is that most "older" animals spend more time in the shelter than younger pets.  Typically, they are more trained on basic commands, more likely to be house broken, and are calmly prepared to reciprocate the companionship of a senior citizen.  Owning a pet can help senior citizens be more social, connect with neighbors, stay active and much more!

Standard adoption procedures apply to this program.
