Overview

Our Animal Control division responds to reports of animals running at large, abuse and neglect. We enforce laws set forth by the state of Iowa and ordinances designed by the cities we serve.  We are contractors for the cities we serve and regulations may vary by town.

Animals running at large

Please call Animal Control at 563.388.6655 to report pets running at large. Please have available the nearest crossroad and direction the animal is heading to assist responding officers as we work to safely contain the animal.

Bite reports, Abuse and Neglect

Local licensing information

The City of Davenport requires that all dogs and cats be licensed. Pet owners must purchase  a license for their pet within thirty days of the date the pet is initially inoculated for rabies and annually within thirty days’ time of the date of the current rabies vaccination. Licenses can be purchased at the Humane Society of Scott County with verification of a current rabies vaccination signed and administered by a licensed veterinarian.

Annual license fees are:

  • Neutered/spayed (altered) dog or cat – $10
  • Non-altered dog or cat – $30

The City of Bettendorf requires every dog over 6 months of age be licensed.  Licenses can be purchased at the Humane Society of Scott County or from Bettendorf City Hall.  Pet licenses must be purchased prior to January 31 of each calendar year.  Pet owners applying for a license must present a certificate of current rabies vaccination signed and administered by a licensed veterinarian.

Annual license fees are:

  • Neutered/spayed (altered) dog – $3
  • Non-altered dog – $25
  • Dog certified by veterinarian to be too old to alter – $3
